Talkin’ Off The Top Rope #11: “The Podfather” Trey Mack
PřehranéThis week, “The Grizzled Vet” Michael McCurdy sits down with a man who didn’t just become part of his podcasting story, he helped push him into the world of video podcasting in the first place. “The Podfather” Trey Mack looks back on growing up in Texas, becoming a wrestling fan, attending WrestleMania IX, getting his first real taste of the business, and learning some very painful lessons after discovering that professional wrestling wasn’t nearly as “fake” as people liked to say. The conversation also dives into Trey’s family history in the music business, his own wrestling career, the birth of the Offshoots Network and Offshoots TV, how the “Podfather” name came about, and the evolution from wrestling podcasts into a much broader creative outlet. There are plenty of old stories, a few detours into football and pop culture, and even the story of how Michael once got bombarded with messages asking why he supposedly hated the Von Erichs. More than anything, it’s a conversation about following your own path,…
RWR USWA Podcast Ep. 124 (2/29/92) The Fat Boys Arrive!
PřehranéThe Fat Boys have arrived in Memphis, Koko B. Ware is finally the Unified World Heavyweight Champion, and somehow the Moondogs are still finding new pieces of furniture to destroy. Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel head back to February 29, 1992, where Meat & Potatoes make one hell of a first impression and immediately start calling out Richard Lee’s Moondogs. Meanwhile, Brian Christopher’s ego keeps growing while taking on Jim Steel, King Cobra wants to knock him down a few pegs, and a mysterious woman is sitting at ringside taking notes on seemingly everybody. Things get even stranger when “Dr. Death” (NOT Steve Williams) and Nurse Kratchet show up with a bedpan cutting nonsense promos on Dave Brown, Pat Tanaka nearly kicks Eric Embry’s eyeball into the cheap seats, and the Moondogs respond to Big Black Dog’s injury by trying to cripple somebody who had absolutely nothing to do with it. And looming over everything is Night of Champions featuring six title matches, no-disqualification chaos, and…
RWR ECW Podcast Ep. 17 (8/3/93) W.I.N.G.-ing It This Week!
Přehrané***WATCHALONG W/BRANDON & GENE AT THE LINK BELOW*** https://rumble.com/v7h30ik-rwr-ecw-podcast-ep.-17-8393-w.i.n.g.-ing-it-this-week.html ECW is running out of fresh footage, “Jazzy” J.T. Smith being tossed off the crow’s nest is airing again, and somehow Japanese deathmatch wrestling has entered the conversation in 1993. Gene Jackson and Brandon Wheeler head back to August 3, 1993, where the Dark Patriot continues his feud with the apparently, “Jazzy” J.T. Smith, Eddie Gilbert and Paul E. Dangerously remain right in the middle of everything, and ECW desperately hypes the upcoming August TV tapings featuring names like Stan Hansen, Tito Santana, Sensational Sherri, Shane Douglas, Don Muraco, Jimmy Snuka, and stars from the WING promotion from Japan. There’s also more recycled footage, more baffling continuity, and a look at the kind of wild Japanese wrestling that clearly points toward where ECW would eventually be heading. The good news? Fresh tapings are finally coming and not a moment too soon! ★ Support…

RWR Power Pro Wrestling Podcast Ep. 27 (10/17/98) “Where’s Your Axe?”
PřehranéPower Pro Wrestling continues to morph into The Randy Hales Show, and this week somehow manages to shift into another gear. Gene, Robb, and BT head back to October 17, 1998, where Randy is everywhere once again, Bill Dundee continues to verbally annihilate everyone in his path , Brandon Baxter tries to put last week’s humiliation behind him, and a new arrival claiming the LeDuc family name immediately raises one very important question: Where’s your axe? (Good call, Randy!) Add in Jerry Lawler, Kid Wikkid, Derrick King, Ashley Hudson, Rex King, Master B’s bridge falling out during a match, and the continued buildup toward Sid Vicious finally wrestling on Power Pro TV, and this episode is far more about personalities, grudges, and people calling each other out than anything happening bell to bell (and that’s OK!) It’s messy, personal, occasionally ridiculous, and exactly the kind of late ’90s Memphis television that gives Gene, Robb, and BT plenty to talk about. And yes always remember.. if you’re going to…

RWR USWA Podcast Ep. 123 (2/22/92) The Moondog Madness Continues!
PřehranéThe Moondogs have been running wild for weeks, but Jerry Lawler and Jeff Jarrett may have finally found the perfect answer. Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel head back to February 22, 1992, as Junkyard Dog arrives in Memphis to join the fight against Richard Lee’s ever growing pack. Meanwhile, Eric Embry is still stirring the pot with the Dirty White Girl and now Pat Tanaka is headed back to the USWA, Koko B. Ware puts something very important on the line for another shot at Kamala, and Brian Christopher finally gets some television time again. Add in more Moondog destruction, another wonderfully bizarre Jerry Lawler promo, and a loaded Mid South Coliseum card, and this week’s USWA television gives the Retro Wrestling USWA gang plenty to talk about. The dog fight is getting bigger. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
RWR ECW Podcast Ep. 16 (7/27/93) Two Steps Back....
Přehrané***WATCHALONG W/BRANDON & GENE AT THIS LINK*** https://rumble.com/v7gr3zq-rwr-ecw-podcast-ep.-16-72793-two-steps-back.....html ECW is changing fast... but this week, Gene Jackson and Brandon Wheeler may have found the bump in the road. Todd Gordon finally tries to bring some order to the chaos with suspensions, fines, stripped championships, and the announcement of Ultra Clash ’93, while Eddie Gilbert’s reign as the “King of Philadelphia” somehow gets even stranger. There’s also Terry Funk, Sandman, the Suicide Blondes, more early ECW continuity confusion, and a television show that leaves Gene and Brandon wondering what exactly was happening behind the scenes as the promotion waits for its next major round of tapings. It may not be ECW’s finest hour... but it’s definitely interesting to dissect. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

RWR Power Pro Wrestling Podcast Ep. 26 (10/10/98) Brandon Baxter Gets Trashed!
PřehranéThe fallout from Settle the Score hits Power Pro Wrestling, and somehow things are getting even crazier. Gene Jackson, Robb Helt, and Brian Tramel head back to October 10, 1998, as Sid Vicious finally gets his “Power Pro contract”, only for Randy Hales to make sure there are a few ridiculous strings attached. Meanwhile, the Randy Hales/Brandon Baxter/Stacy situation takes another ugly turn, Billy Joe Travis brings a guitar into the equation, and Road Warrior Hawk crosses paths with Jerry Lawler in a Memphis “street fight” that raises more than a few questions. Plus, Kid Wikkid and Derrick King get some well earned recognition after their ladder match, Bill Dundee has plenty to say about Power Pro’s younger talent, and Corey Maclin continues his march toward becoming the most entertaining man on Saturday morning television. It’s Sid, Hawk, Lawler, Dundee, Randy Hales, guitars, dumpsters, and even a little Buddy Wayne and Downtown Bruno thrown in for good measure. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

This week finds World Class Championship Wrestling firmly in the aftermath of Christmas Star Wars. The Freebirds have made themselves the most hated men in Texas, Gary Hart is out of the territory, and the entire promotion is beginning to reshape itself around one feud that is rapidly becoming bigger than everything else on the card. Talkin’ Off The Top Rope Episode #10: with guest Drexl
PřehranéThis week, “The Grizzled Vet” Michael McCurdy sits down with Drexl, the Human Horror Show, the Homicidal Artist, and the self-proclaimed Devil himself for a look at the man behind one of the Pacific Northwest’s most unforgettable wrestling characters. Drexl talks about growing up obsessed with wrestling, horror movies, comic books, punk rock, and heavy metal, his years working in radio, and how a cross promotion with Portland Wrestling unexpectedly led him into the business. From brutal early training with The Grappler and learning from veterans like Buddy Rose, Moondog Moretti, Dr. Luther, and Kevin Sullivan, to the evolution of the Drexl character, death matches, acting, graphic design, booking, and helping develop the next generation of Pacific Northwest talent, this conversation goes far beyond what happens inside the ring. It’s a story about creativity, longevity, chasing the things you love, and finding success even when the road takes you somewhere completely different than you expected. The stories…
RWR USWA Podcast (2/15/92) Where’s Austin Idol??
PřehranéThe war with Richard Lee and the Moondogs is getting uglier by the week, and this time Jerry Lawler, Jeff Jarrett, and Austin Idol are ready to fight fire with fire perhaps literally. After the Big Black Dog managed to pin Lawler last week, the King has a LOT to say about it on this week’s show. Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel head back to February 15, 1992, as the Moondog chaos continues, Lawler delivers one of the strangest promos we’ve heard yet, Koko B. Ware sets his sights on regaining the Unified World Title from Kamala, and the escalating Eric Embry/Dirty White Boy feud leads to a match nobody should probably agree to climb into/or up to…well, you’ll see. Perhaps, the biggest unanswered question the gang has right now is…where the hell is Brian Christopher?? Plus, there’s a loaded Mid-South Coliseum card on the horizon featuring a scaffold match, a mud pit match, a World Tag Team Title match, and Lawler promising that Richard Lee may want to keep a fire extinguisher close by. Basically,…
Beyond Wrestling Ep. 12: USWA & The Lawsuit That Killed Wrestling’s Last Territory Part Four w/special guest James Beard
PřehranéAfter three episodes digging through court records, conflicting stories, behind the scenes politics, and the financial mess surrounding the final days of the USWA, Beyond Wrestling w/Robb Helt brings the series home with somebody who was actually standing in the middle of it. On Episode #12, Robb Helt is joined by guest co-hosts Gene Jackson and Steve Crawford for Part 4 of “USWA & The Lawsuit That Killed Wrestling’s Last Territory,” featuring special guest James Beard, longtime referee, booker, promoter, wrestling historian, and one of the final people involved in running the United States Wrestling Association before the doors closed in 1997. For more than 20 years, Memphis Wrestling was part of the city’s identity. Saturday morning meant Lance Russell. Then Dave Brown. Jerry Lawler. The Mid-South Coliseum. A territory that somehow survived while the rest of the wrestling world changed around it. By 1997, it was gone. Not because WCW beat it. Not because the WWF put it out of business. Not even because…

This time, the headline match is a rare clash between two legends as Terry Funk faces “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka for the ECW Television title, while the ECW Tag Team Title picture gets even more complicated with yet another stipulation heavy match between the Super Destroyers & the Suidcide Blondes, meanwhile Rockin’ Rebel keeps pushing the Sandman feud into uglier territory, and Todd Gordon tries to bring some order to a promotion that seems increasingly determined to ignore him. There’s also more from Eddie Gilbert and Paul E. Dangerously, some classic early-ECW production confusion, and the kind of wild finish that makes you wonder whether anybody backstage was actually in control.…

RWR Continental Wrestling Ep. 15 (11/16 & 11/23/85) Robert Fuller Steals the Show (and the TV Title!)
Přehrané***WATCHALONG WITH GENE & ROBB AT THIS LINK*** https://rumble.com/v7g8s3q-rwr-continental-wrestling-ep.-15-robert-fuller-steals-the-show-and-the-tv-t.html On Episode #15 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View Continental Wrestling Podcast, Gene Jackson and Robb Helt are back for one of their final stops in 1985, covering material from the November 16 and November 23, 1985 episodes of Continental Championship Wrestling. And at this point, you can feel the territory starting to shift. Some long running feuds are winding down, some familiar faces are about to move on, and 1986 is right around the corner with a fresh batch of talent, Memphis crossover, and new angles waiting in the wings. Before we get there, though, 1985 still has a few bullets left in the chamber. Literally. The Bullet mystery continues to dominate the show, with Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden still convinced that Bob Armstrong is under the mask. The problem? There seems to be more than one Bullet running around. At this point, Continental has so many…
RWR Power Pro Wrestling Ep. 25 (10/3/98) The Legion of Gunns??
PřehranéOn Episode #25 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View Power Pro Wrestling Podcast, Gene Jackson, Robb Helt, and Brian Tramel head back to October 3, 1998, for one of the biggest Power Pro shows yet with Sid Vicious, Road Warrior Hawk, Bart Gunn, Giant Silva, Jerry Lawler, Randy Hales, Brandon Baxter, Bill Dundee, Dr. Tom Prichard, and a loaded Mid-South Coliseum card all in the mix. This week feels different right from the start. Randy Hales arrives in a limo with Billy Joe Travis, Giant Silva, and Dr. Tom Prichard. Silva is presented as the giant weapon Randy plans to unleash on Lawler’s side, while Dr. Tom brings instant credibility just by standing next to him. Then Road Warrior Hawk shows up. And not the version most fans remember. No face paint. A full head of hair. And at one point, he drops the Road Warrior voice and starts talking in a much more natural, almost normal tone about the hard times he has been through. That alone stops Gene, Robb, and BT in their tracks. It’s weird. It’s fascinating. And it’s…
Cassette Wrestling News #67 - May 1992
PřehranéFire up the Walkman and head back to May 1992 for another time capsule from the days when wrestling news traveled through newsletters, phone calls, tape traders, and cassettes in the mail. On Cassette Wrestling News #67, Jeff Osborne and Harvey Krantz are back with another packed edition covering a wrestling business that seems to be changing by the hour. Memphis is getting interesting again, Smoky Mountain Wrestling is beginning to establish itself, the WWF is still dealing with the fallout from its steroid controversy, FMW is pushing the boundaries of what anyone thought wrestling could be, and a major shakeup is happening behind the scenes in WCW. The big story close to home is the return of “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert to Memphis. Gilbert has resurfaced in the USWA, including an appearance in Memphis involving the Global Championship, and Jeff immediately starts wondering what it could mean for a promotion that he feels has grown stale. With Eric Embry also moving back into the picture, suddenly Memphis has…

RWR USWA Podcast Ep. 121 (2/8/92) Richard Lee's New Dawg
PřehranéOn this episode of the Retro Wrestling Re-View USWA Podcast, Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel head back to February 8, 1992, for a week of USWA television that proves exactly what BT has been saying all along: Saturday morning Memphis Wrestling is basically one long commercial designed to get your ass into the Mid-South Coliseum on Monday night. And this week, they brought it! The war with The Moondogs and Richard Lee keeps getting bigger, Austin Idol is back in the mix, Koko B. Ware and Kamala are fighting over the Unified World Championship, Eric Embry and Dirty White Boy Tony Anthony have turned their feud into complete chaos, and Dr. Tom Prichard walks away with the Southern Heavyweight Championship, although apparently nobody could find an actual belt for him to hold up afterward. The big news is Richard Lee has decided two Moondogs aren’t enough. With his arm injured and Lawler and Jarrett gaining allies, Lee introduces a brand new member of the pack: Big Black Dog And yes, that’s the actual…
Retro Wrestling w/Gene Jackson Ep. 65: Robbie Idol
PřehranéOn Episode #65 of Retro Wrestling w/Gene Jackson, Gene sits down with veteran wrestler Robbie Idol for a deep dive into a career that stretches from the Florida territory days through Jim Crockett Promotions, WCW, independent wrestling, and beyond. Along the way, Robbie talks about breaking into the business in the mid-1980s, learning one on one instead of through a traditional wrestling school that would become the norm later, working as a regular enhancement talent on national television, and sharing the ring with an unbelievable list of wrestling legends. Robbie’s wrestling story begins as a fan growing up in Florida. After moving from Buffalo, he was introduced to the business through live Championship Wrestling from Florida cards featuring names like Jack and Jerry Brisco, Terry Funk, Dusty Rhodes, Eddie Graham, Mike Graham, Don Muraco, Rocky Johnson, Buddy Colt, Bugsy McGraw, King Curtis, and Hiro Matsuda. Seeing those larger than life personalities in person left an impression that never went away.…

It’s still rough around the edges, the continuity is all over the place, and some of the wrestling is a long way from great but the personalities are getting stronger, the stories are getting louder, and ECW is finally developing some momentum. The biggest match of the night puts the ECW Tag Team Championship against the masks of the Super Destroyers as the Suicide Blondes defend against the former champions. Todd Gordon has finally had enough of Paul E. Dangerously’s chaos and threatens fines and suspensions, while Hunter Q. Robbins III insists the Suicide Blondes are the most popular team in the company only for the “fans” he brings out to…

PřehranéOn Episode #24 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View Power Pro Wrestling Podcast, Brian Tramel is joined by Robb Helt and Scottie Wince while Gene Jackson is sidelined by illness, and the crew heads back to September 26, 1998 for another chaotic hour of Memphis Power Pro Wrestling. There’s Sid Vicious, the Road Warriors, Randy Hales trying to control everything in sight, Brandon Baxter and Stacey getting dragged deeper into Randy’s mess, Brian Christopher continuing to look like the biggest star on the program and Jerry Lawler spending a whole lot of television time talking about Jim Carrey and Man on the Moon while dressed like someone’s grandmother. The show wastes no time reminding everybody that this is increasingly becoming The Randy Hales Show. Talkin’ Off The Top Rope Episode #9: Big Ugly
PřehranéOn Episode #9 of Talkin’ Off The Top Rope, “The Grizzled Vet” Michael McCurdy sits down with longtime wrestler, promoter, booker, trainer, and father “Big Ugly” for an in-depth conversation about a life spent in and around professional wrestling from discovering the business as a kid in California to wrestling in Portland, running his own promotion and school, training future stars, and watching his own children carry the family legacy forward. He talks openly about growing up without much money, spending a lot of time alone, and how wrestling became both entertainment and motivation. Good grades meant wrestling magazines or merchandise. Saturday routines revolved around wrestling tapes. Heroes like The Road Warriors, Ric Flair, Nikita Koloff, and the Four Horsemen became larger-than-life figures in a childhood where wrestling was much more than just television. Michael and Big Ugly spend time talking about the old tape trading culture, including World of Sport, Memphis, APW, Ohio Valley, Japanese wrestling,…
RWR USWA Podcast Ep. 120 (2/1/92) Austin Idol Shows Up!
PřehranéOn Episode #120, The gang heads back to February 1, 1992 for an episode of USWA Championship Wrestling that somehow manages to cram “attempted murder”, a fake Richard Lee, Moondog destruction, Eric Embry insanity, Dennis Corluzzo saying things that definitely wouldn’t make television today and the surprising return of the Universal Heartthrob, Austin Idol all into one Saturday morning wrestling show. Things get violent immediately as The Moondogs make quick work of Chris Frazier and Brian Collins but the bigger story comes from the previous Mid-South Coliseum show, where Richard Lee pulls an old Memphis trick straight out of the Andy Kaufman playbook by sending a bandaged imposter into harm’s way while the real Richard waits for his moment to strike. The guys get a good laugh at Corey Maclin realizing halfway through the chaos that Jeff Jarrett has just piledriven “some kind of dummy or a mummy” instead of Richard Lee It’s exactly the kind of ridiculous but effective Memphis angle that works because…

PřehranéOn this episode of Rick Del Santo’s Classic Wrestling Talk Podcast, Rick sits down with longtime wrestler, manager, promoter, and trainer “Broadway” Joe Malcolm for an incredible conversation about breaking into professional wrestling, learning under Professor Boris Malenko, working the old territory system, and crossing paths with some of the biggest names of the 1980s. Joe starts at the beginning, talking about growing up in New York, discovering wrestling as a kid while watching names like Butcher Vachon and Bulldog Brower, then later becoming hooked on Championship Wrestling from Florida after moving south. Dusty Rhodes, Superstar Billy Graham, Ron Bass, Blackjack Mulligan, Kevin Sullivan and others became part of his weekly routine long before he ever stepped into a ring himself. The heart of Joe’s early career story is his training under Boris Malenko. Joe explains what old-school wrestling training really looked like, learning how to get into the ring correctly, wiping your feet before entering,…

Jammie brings a completely different layer to the discussion. Long before wrestling podcasts and streaming archives, he was following the business through newsletters, tape trading, conventions, and the old school fan networking. He was already reading the Wrestling Observer when the Freebirds turned on Kerry Von Erich, and he remembers getting World Class tapes just a few months after they originally aired. That makes him a perfect guest for an episode built around the growing Von Erich vs. Freebirds war. That leads to one of the best discussions of the episode: Who was actually the best Von Erich?…

PřehranéOn Episode #23 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View Power Pro Wrestling Podcast, Gene Jackson, Robb Helt, and Brian Tramel are back live on a Saturday morning to cover the September 19, 1998 episode of Memphis Power Pro Wrestling and this one has a little bit of everything: Jerry Lawler vs. Brian Christopher, Jimmy Valiant as special referee, Bill Dundee vs. Kid Wikkid, the beginning of the Randy Hales vs. Brandon Baxter feud, and the sudden arrival of Sid Vicious in Power Pro. The show kicks off with Lawler addressing the brewing issue with Brian Christopher, comparing it to his own rise past Jackie Fargo years earlier. Lawler says Brian believes he has to knock the King off the throne to become the top dog in Power Pro, but Lawler isn’t ready to step aside (and apparently never would be). The added incentive? If Lawler beats Brian, he gets five minutes in the ring with Randy Hales. And to keep things under control, Lawler brings in a special referee: “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant. The Sid material is the headline…

PřehranéOn Episode #64 of Retro Wrestling w/Gene Jackson, Gene welcomes Pez Whatley Jr. for a conversation honoring the life, career, and legacy of his father, “Pistol” Pez Whatley. Gene opens the episode by explaining that he's still under the weather health wise, so this episode will be audio only, but he wanted to make sure this interview happened in time to help promote the upcoming 'Pez Whatley Invitational' in Red Bank, Tennessee: a one night tournament created to honor Pez Whatley’s legacy and celebrate Black wrestling excellence. From there, the conversation becomes much more personal than a standard career retrospective. Pez Whatley Jr. talks about growing up as the son of a professional wrestler, traveling with his father during the summer, watching him work territories like ICW and Continental, and getting an up close look at a wrestling business that still guarded kayfabe closely. One of the most important parts of the episode comes early, when Pez Jr. discusses his father’s amateur wrestling…

PřehranéOn this episode of Huge Pop Entertainment Presents… DROP THE MIC, the crew welcomes one of professional wrestling’s most outspoken veterans, Rip Rogers, for a fast moving, no filter conversation covering nearly 50 years in the business, from the wild territory days and ICW to OVW, WCW, Stampede, training future stars, and what he believes today’s wrestlers have forgotten about how wrestling is supposed to work. Rip starts at the beginning, talking about getting hooked on wrestling as a seven year old after seeing Dick the Bruiser vs. Cowboy Bob Ellis, then spending his youth in sports and the weight room before eventually finding his way into the business. From there, the stories come quickly, especially once the conversation turns to ICW, where Rip worked alongside Randy Savage, Lanny Poffo, Angelo Poffo, Bob Roop, Bob Orton, Ronnie Garvin, Boris Malenko, George Weingroff, and others. RWR USWA Podcast Ep. 119 (1/25/92) Promo of the Year??
PřehranéOn Episode #119 of the RWR USWA Podcast, The Gang is back inside the Retro Wrestling Archive to review the January 25, 1992 episode of USWA Championship Wrestling and this one is another wild chapter in early ’92 Memphis, where the Moondogs vs. Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett war is getting nastier by the week, Richard Lee may have just delivered the promo of the year, and the undercard suddenly comes alive with women’s chaos, strap match fallout, and a big Saturday night card at the Mid South Coliseum. The centerpiece of this episode is absolutely Richard Lee. After having his entire head set on fire during last week’s Coliseum chaos, Richard comes out bandaged, shaken, and speaking like a man who has been through something horrible. He says he was permanently disfigured, claims he cannot even control the Moondogs anymore, and then proves it as the Moondogs destroy Freezer Thompson and poor Dazzler Hayes (for the third week in a row). Look, this is exactly the kind of selling Gene, Josh, and Brian want from…
Retro Wrestling w/Gene Jackson Ep. 63: with special guest Brother Ernest Angel
PřehranéOn Episode #63 of Retro Wrestling w/Gene Jackson, Gene sits down with a guest that a lot of Memphis wrestling fans have wondered about for decades: Brother Ernest Angel. Known for his short but unforgettable run in Memphis and Continental in 1988, Brother Ernest steps back into the spotlight for a rare conversation about how the character came together, why it generated so much heat, working with Jerry Lawler, Jerry Jarrett, Jeff Jarrett, Lance Russell, Dave Brown, Bill Dundee, Jamie Dundee, Eddie Gilbert, Missy Hyatt, Doug Gilbert, the Samoans, Maxx Payne, and more. Gene opens the show by explaining why this interview matters. Retro Wrestling w/Gene Jackson has always been about finding the people fans haven’t heard from in years, the names who weren’t on every shoot interview, podcast, or convention stage and Brother Ernest fits that mission perfectly. After Gene’s article and promo compilation reminded fans just how entertaining Brother Ernest was, the response made it clear: people still remember him,…
Rick Del Santo’s Classic Wrestling Talk w/GLOW’s Roxy Astor
PřehranéOn this episode of Rick Del Santo’s Classic Wrestling Talk Podcast, Rick welcomes former GLOW Girl Roxy Astor for a fun, honest, and surprisingly heartfelt conversation about her time in the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, how she found her way into the business, what made GLOW so different, and how that wild, campy, colorful wrestling world continues to live on decades later. Roxy talks about growing up in Auburn, Washington, having no real background as a wrestling fan, actress, or athlete, and then discovering GLOW after moving to Los Angeles. She explains that her performance instincts came more from beauty school than acting class, joking that learning how to talk to clients and make them feel great was its own kind of acting training. The heart of the episode is Roxy explaining that she did not come into GLOW as a polished actress or trained wrestler. She simply saw something that looked fun, bold, and different, and decided she wanted to be part of it. Once she got there, the pressure was real:…
